Taking notes and making use of #tags within the content to label it providing some taxonomy abilities. Adding on to this, the desktop version is also lean and clean. Image attachments are allowed at 2MB each. If you do not need to attach more than just plain text and images, then this is the software you’ve been looking for and it’s free.

What I like about this is that the application is clean and simple with not much to complain about. It’s free and it just works. Search for “3banana” in the Market.

The Nexus One has a secondary microphone on the back that is used to detect ambient noises. This ambient sounds recorded here is then used to process the sound recorded by the primary microphone at the bottom and to produce a less noisy output for the listener at the other end of the call.

CNET performed an unscientific test on noise cancellation technology used in mobile phones claimed by the manufacturers in this short video which included the Nexus One. What they should have included is maybe also a test with a phone that doesn’t have any noise cancelling technologies built in.

I personally have found the Nexus One’s voice capture pretty good when I hear my wife on the other end. We just got a Nexus One for her recently too. It has always been because my location was too noisy for me to hear her rather than her location being too noisy for me to make out what she’s saying. So for me at least, it does work.

Ps. Wife was using the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro before the Nexus One and there definitely have been many times I needed to say “huh” even when I am in a quiet place.

Frustrated with always needing to spell out non-English words like name of locations in Singapore? Always needing to tell someone you’re at “Ang Mo Kio” or at “Jalan Pemimpin” often? Do not fret. Follow the tips below and you should start typing as fast as when you were using your T9 on your previously owned dumb phone.

These tips are for when using the default Android keyboard in Nexus One. I have tried a few Android keyboards so far and I notice that I keep switching back to the default Android keyboard because I’ve gotten so used to how it works and where the keys were. So read along and maybe improve your typing speed.

Add to User Dictionary

Add frequently used phrases into your Nexus One’s User Dictionary as a whole phrase instead of single words. This can be done manually by navigating to Home >> Menu >> Settings >> Language & keyboard >> User dictionary >> Menu >> Add.

Don’t worry too much about being accurate when you type. Android’s prediction is quite good when you have Quick fixes, Show suggestions and Auto-complete enabled within Home >> Menu >> Settings >> Language & keyboard >> Android keyboard.

Based on point 2 above, type your text and as soon as you see your desired text highlighted in orange in the suggestions, instead of selected the text you want manually, just type the next character after the word like the space key or a punctuation. This will automatically select the previously highlighted text and append your space key or punctuation at the end of it.

Enter "Ang" for "Ang Mo Kio"

If you have more tips to give, post them in the comments below and share.

Nexus One supports only simple two-finger multi-touch gestures by design. It is not broken. Read more to find out the gist of this discussion that has been happening across the internet's Android communities and what it means to you as a consumer.

I have been following the news on this for quite some time and the final verdict is quite a disappointment. For those who doesn’t know what limitations I’m writing about, read this. Main thing I want to bring to your attention is that the Nexus One will not be able to play games that require multiple touch points on the screen for independent controls that are close to each other either on the X-axis or on the Y-axis. Also, there is only support for 2 simultaneous touch points.

What this means is that games that requires a directional control pad on the left and action buttons on the right to mimic a console controller will behave oddly when you have both thumbs down on the screen because either of the 2 touch points will snap to the same X-axis or Y-axis of the other touch point. Also, you will not be able to use features than needs more than 2 touch points simultaneously.

Because this is the way the touch sensor is designed, there is no software “fix” that can make it work like how iPhone users are used to. Just for the record, it’s not broken. It’s the way the touch sensors are designed.

Quick facts about the touch screen

Nexus One touch sensor is the ClearPad 2000 from Synaptics

Supports simple 2-finger gestures only (like two-finger pinch zoom and maybe two-finger rotate)

Two moving touch points may swap their X-axis or Y-axis when they pass each other on either of the axes. (This does not break the functionality of point 2 above)

Single finger gestures still work as expected (flicking, scrolling, tapping)

Hope this information is helpful in your decision to get a super phone for complex multi touch applications or games. Personally, I rely more on double-tap-to-zoom than pinch-to-zoom in the month I have had my Nexus One. Anything more than one finger on my screen is blocking too much of what I want to see and I prefer to not have to use my other hand all the time. Multi-touch is overrated… or the grapes are just sour.
